Favorite Things of the Sisterhood!

My Favorite Things....

This morning was a fun time with my "sisters".  Not all of the gals in the picture are actually my sisters, but 4 of them are!  My sister Heidi (second from left in top row) had this great idea a few years back after seeing Oprah's Favorite Things show.  So this is how it works....everyone brought 9 things to share (because there were 10 of us total) which we consider something that is a favorite for us.  Here is the list of what we came up with:
(Starting with back row, left to right.)
Sonja:  Brought coffee mugs with a delightful little chocolate cake mix to make in the mug.  It is a single serving of cake, just right when you need that warm chocolate cake fix!  Here is the recipe:
Mug Cake
1 box of angel food cake mix
1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 bag of mini chocolate chips
To Make: combine 1/3 c. of mix and 2 Tbsp. water
Mix and microwave 1 minute.  Top with frosting and/or ice cream.
Yum!  I can't wait!
She also brought along devotional books that she has read over the years and had each of us take one home to read.  I picked Finding God in the story of Amazing Grace by Kurt Bruner and Jim Ware.  She prayed over the books before bringing them so we will all be blessed by what we read.
Thanks Sonja for blessing others!
Heidi*:  Sugar scrub
She made this scrub by mixing white sugar, brown sugar, olive oil and baby oil.
Not sure of the amounts but anxious to pamper my hands and feet!
Thanks Heidi!
Melanie:  cuticle conditioner and Dentyne pure gum
Mel is a cosmetologist and is great at pampering her clients!   She shared the cuticle conditioner and told us that keeping the cuticles soft keeps them healthy and healthy cuticles means healthy nails!  She loves her Dentyne pure gum which keeps her breath fresh when she is working.
Thanks Mel for making us feel beautiful!
Lindsey*:  Good S*#t seasoning
We had a good laugh on this one but she swears by it for all of her meats that she cooks.  Can't wait to try it out on the elk burgers we are grilling for the archery league members tonight.
Thanks Lin, for the laugh and spicing up our lives!
Melissa:  Home Management Binder
Mel is a woman after my own heart's desire....I desire to be organized but don't always get the job done.  The sheets in the binders include:
a menu planner, daily devotions and prayer notes, detailed daily planner, cleaning schedule, dates to remember, What should we do today? (printable for intentional fun).
Great stuff that I hope will help me get me more organized!
Thanks Mel for sharing your gift of organization!
Jerilyn*:  chalk painted picture frame
After visiting her daughter in California, Jer learned about chalk painting.  She took a class and learned the technique and so far has done 2 pieces of furniture and picture frames for all of us!
Thanks Jer, for teaching us we are never to old to learn new tricks!
Gail*:  recycled bottles into vases and candle holders
Gail really stepped out of her box and tried a craft project.  She took old bottles (from salad dressing, etc) and painted them.  The best part was hearing how she did this... syringing paint into the bottles and then swirling it to coat them for the vases, painting a glue mixture into the jars and then sprinkling with glitter to make the candle holders.
Me:  Homemade laundry soap and a space bag
I started making my own laundry soap about a year ago.  I did this for a couple reasons:
1) to save money and 2) to know what is actually in my laundry soap.
Here is the recipe:
1 (4#  12 oz.) box of Borax
1 (3# 7 oz.) box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 (3#) container of Oxyclean
2 (14.1 oz.) bars of Zote laundry bar (or you can by the flakes in a box)
1 (4#) Arm & Hammer Baking soda
1 (55 oz) Purex Crystals
Mix all ingredients together.  Use 1-2 tbsp. per load.
I also shared 1 Ziploc space bag with our hostess Heidi.  She brought me 3 sweaters and a pair of pants and I stuck them in the med. bag and we sucked the air out using the vacuum cleaner (which is why you see it in the background in the pic).  Voila---saving space!
Julie:  art and clip
Julie loves art! and she is good at it.  So, she shared a clothespin which she painted up so cute and handed out pictures for us to choose from for our art.  I got one of a peacock with it's feathers all out!
And remember without art Earth would just be E....h!
Thanks for coloring our world Julie!
Letty:  coconut keylime cupcakes and seashells
Letty loves being by the water and warm weather--she brought us yummy cupcakes that make her think of her Florida home and sea shells that she collected on the beach.  I'm going to eat mine on the lawn chair in the sun this afternoon!  Can't wait.
Thanks for giving us a "tropical" treat!
What are your favorite things?  I know mine is spending time with my sisters* doing fun things like this!
(My 4 sisters are denoted with an *.  The others in the picture are "sisters" by heart!)
